A calm suburban summer of 1958, 12-year-old David and three neighbor boys were entertained like ordinary teenagers: playing hide-and-seek and teasing the local girls. Until the beautiful cousin and her younger mutilated sister, recently orphaned in a terrible car accident, moved to live with them. David was friendly to the eldest of the girls and even felt the attacks of acute pain of the first love, but noticed that her presence in the next house causes, it seems, the inexplicable jealousy and hatred of the mother of the Ruth boys, a single woman whom all the neighbor's children respect. Over time, Ruth's hostility is becoming more acute, she finds accomplices among the local children, who now also take part in the humiliation of the girl.
